I wanted to wear a simple outfit that made a statement. It was raining recently in New York City, so I whipped out my trench coat. Anytime I see a guy wearing a monochromatic/tonal look, I think to myself “damn, that’s bold”. So for 2017, one of the styles I wanted to incorporate more in my look was wearing more tonal looks like this one.
Different Monochromatic Tones
What I love about this style is that you can do it now- with any piece in your wardrobe. The first step is to pick a a color/tone that you want to focus on. Then, start picking out pieces in your wardrobe that will compliment your statement piece. For this look, my statement piece was my trench coat, as it was the anchor to my look. Then I continue to pick my outfit with my shirt, then shoes, and everything else will follow suit. Also, don’t be afraid to play with different textures and fabrics in your clothes to add dimension. Lastly, the outfit doesn’t have to be all the same exact color, as long as it is in the same family it will create a nice cool look.
I got this trench coat from Banana Republic on sale- I was so happy because my last trench was worn out. I’ve started to invest in more quality pieces in my wardrobe. So this trench was a perfect find. The sweater is the perfect tone for my complexion because it doesn’t make me look naked nor does it contrast too much. These Joe Fresh chinos are perfect for casual smart casual outfits like this one. Lastly, can’t forget my Dune London Tan suede “Claude” boots.
